from Raw to Refined
The Creative Path of Master Craftsmen of the Pennsylvania Guild

July 18 to October 31, 2009
Central Gallery, Reading Public Museum
Reading, PA

Illustrating the relationship between raw materials and finished work, from Raw to Refined explores the path masters take to create exemplary works of art.

Elegant vessels born in riverbed clay find their final shape through the skilled hands and creative mind of the master craftsman. Fallen trees become fine furnishings, spoons or turned bowls. Shawls from sheep, precious jewelry from raw metals and gems, each fine craft traces its origins to earth, field, forest and beyond before its transformation in the studio.

from Raw to Refined: the Creative Path of Master Craftsmen of the Pennsylvania Guild highlights exquisite handmade crafts and the process that merges creativity of mind, excellence in craftsmanship and the best raw materials available.
