Three Women, Six Hands: Art Study Group
Fri, April 2 & Sat, April 3
252 N. Prince St, Lancaster

This small group of women has been meeting regularly for over a decade.  The purpose of the gathering is to explore, problem solve and share critiques to help stretch and support the creativity of people who work alone most of the time.  Together, we choose a topic.  In our own studios, we each create a piece based on the topic.  The work can be done in any medium.  Sometimes members choose to work in their primary medium.  Other times, poetry, drawing, music, or another medium may be used to address the topic.  The work doesn’t have to be a success, necessarily; it doesn’t even need to be finished.  The point is to stretch and explore, then benefit from the critique.  We bring the piece to a meeting and present our work for discussion.

Lunch is also an important part of our day.  Often, our culinary offerings rival our art study pieces.  We’re all good cooks and everyone brings a dish to share.  Lively conversation continues while we eat.  During this time we choose the topic and set the date for next month.  We benefit from our self-imposed structure, but try not to have too many rules.  ASG is our group’s creation and will continue to evolve as time goes on.  This showcase exhibit, “Three Women, Six Hands” is a reflection of our participation in the Art Study Group.
