Rittenhouse Square Show FAQ
Is the show indoors or outside?
The show is entirely outside around the outer perimeter of Rittenhouse Square. All booth spaces are situated on concrete sidewalks.
Is fine art eligible at the Guild Fine Craft Fair at Rittenhouse Square?
In collaboration with the Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show, which is held annually in June and September at the same location, the Guild Fine Craft Fair will focus on fine crafts. Fine artists, such as painters, should apply instead to the Fine Arts Show. If you have questions, please call Nick at 717-673-0392.
Do I need a special tax license to sell in the city of Philadelphia?
Yes. Philadelphia Commercial Activity licenses (formerly Business Privilege Tax licenses) are available at $50 for an annual license (link is a pdf download). City taxes (2%) can be collected on top of the state sales tax (6%) and submitted at the same time to the Department of Revenue while paying your quarterly sales taxes. Please contact the PA Dept. of Revenue at https://www.etides.state.pa.us or call at 717-787-1064.
How does load-in and setup work?
Two times are available: Early setup is available on Thursday night after 6:30 pm or Friday morning from 9 am to 11 am. You are permitted to unload along the curb near your booth.
Will you offer 10′ x 15′ or 10′ x 20′ booth sizes?
Booth sizes are limited to 10′ x 10′ based on our permit with the City of Philadelphia. Extra permitting would be required for oversized spaces. If you are only able to fit in an oversized booth space such as 10′ x 15′, please contact us so we can assess the demand and consider upgrading our permit.
Are corner spaces available?
Yes, the show has a limited number of corner booths available related to the walkways through the park.
Can I stake down my tent?
No. Staking is prohibited as well as tying ropes to the fencing. Please come prepared with weights. We recommend something similar to these concrete-filled PVC pipes.
Is electricity available for lighting?
No electricity is available in the park as part of our event’s arrangements.
Is onsite storage available?
Please plan to keep as much of your extra storage in your 10′ x 10′ booth footprint or in your vehicle.
Is parking available for the weekend?
There are many parking garages and parking lots in the nearby neighborhoods. Each has their various rates and height requirements. Rates range from $10 to $24 depending on different variables. It is the craftsperson’s responsibility to find and secure their own parking arrangement. Use this handy parking locator (click ‘popular destinations’ then ‘landmarks’ then ‘Rittenhouse Square’). More information about parking will be in your packet.
How secure is the site overnight?
We contract with 4 uniformed guards between the show closing each day until 9 am the following morning. Displays, shelving and tent canopies may remain overnight. It is advisable to remove valuables from your booth each night to eliminate risk. Another option is to pack down work into strapped down, locked bins. Leaving anything in your space is done at the artist’s personal discretion. Vehicle loading each night can be done immediately following show hours.
Are there affordable hotels in the area?
Hotels in the immediate are fairly expensive. Many artists have been successful at acquiring good rates using priceline.com, airbnb.com or hotels.com. More information and recommendations to be provided in your advance packet.
Who do I contact if I have additional questions about the show?
You may contact the Guild’s office at 717-431-8706 and speak to Nick Mohler, program director. Or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
