Instructor: Brian Cunfer

In this weekend class, students will be making a 12″ diameter foot stool.  You will start from scratch; turn legs on the lathe and hand carve the seat.   This class is an introduction to Windsor chairmaking with juried Guild member Brian Cunfer.  All the principles of chairmaking will be discussed in this class.  Finishing techniques will be discussed but not done in class.  Some tool experience is advisable, but not necessary. Class fee includes all wood materials. *Students will walk away with a stool.  Class size is limited to 5 students, so sign up today.

Materials Fee: A $25 materials fee is included in the tuition.

 

Bio: Brian started making American Windsor Chairs in 1993 at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. After he made his first Loop Back Chair, he was fascinated by the gracefulness of the Windsor design and would return each year while on vacation to make a different style Windsor chair under the guidance of Dana Hatheway. Dana Hatheway is a cabinetmaker and former resident artist at John C. Campbell Folk School.  Currently Brian makes American Windsor Chairs full-time and is former president of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
