Painting with Stained Glass – Mosaic Portraiture: March 10 & 11
March 10 & 11: 10 am — 5 pm
Location: Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Cheltenham (directions)

Instructor: Carol Shelkin
Skill Level: Intro/refresher course
In this two day intensive workshop, Shelkin teaches traditional and non-traditional mosaic techniques to understand human facial structure and the rendering of landscapes. These techniques include: Cross-contour, highlights, color gradation, value, and types of shadows. Students learn how to see form, color, value, shape, and structure differently, and mix glass values and colors to define planes and use color most effectively. There is one hour demonstration and a life-like 12″x12″ mosaic begun. Return students may bring their own photo to render with approval, and new students may choose from a selection provided by the instructor.
All materials provided.

Carol Shelkin creates contemporary, original and intricate designs that exhibit care and attention to detail with hand cut, high quality stained glass. She studied art at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and teaches a variety of art mediums to adults; including mosaics from beginners to advanced levels worldwide. Carol accepts commissions and her work is displayed in galleries, community centers, libraries, and private collections. She most recently received a grant from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to complete a community project for the interior of The Schoolhouse Center. Carol finds a very eclectic approach to surface design, placing glass where she, as a painter naturally places paint.
