Instructor Doreen Kassel takes students down the rabbit hole for two full days of 3D illustrations with polymer clay! With years of experience as a professional children’s book illustrator, and adept polymer clay sculptor, Kassel promises a medley of informative technique, story-telling, and illustrative journaling through polymer clay and paint.
Think of what you want to say, what’s important to you, what has been pivotal or difficult in your life, who & what you love, remember, want, etc. Think of all those stories un-told, that have been passed down, or that have yet to find the perfect stage.
Using polymer clay, students will sculpt in relief over a ceramic tile & paint in a vintage style, with oil paints in multiple steps. Use color, texture, and design to create a beautiful, personal piece of art

Biography: I spent many years as a professional children’s book illustrator, but eventually I wanted my work to exist off the page, on its own & have no editor but me. I tell stories or convey a feeling with my work; whether in a tile, where there is often a narrative, or in a pendant, sculpture or ornament. My pieces are sold in galleries in the United States. I was honored to win a Niche award in 2011, which recognizes excellence in craftsmanship. I’m thrilled to share my excitement & enthusiasm for these creations in workshops across the country.
