About the Instructors:
Rod Spotts & Barry Mentzer started blacksmithing the same day in 1998 at the John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC. The passion for the craft has led them both to continue taking classes since then (although not usually together). Rod remained focused on blacksmithing where he was able to expand his knowledge and technique. Barry returned to John C. Campbell and branched out into broom making 4 years ago and has enjoyed making all types of brooms both colonial and contemporary. Fireplace brooms were the perfect blending of these two crafts. They look forward to teaching these techniques at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
