- Stained Glass Snowflakes
December 21, 2018
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Instructor: Dan Hayward
Skill Level: Beginner
During this one-day workshop, glass artist Dan Hayward will share his techniques for creating “snowflakes” from stained glass. Dan will help participants through each of the steps from selecting materials, shaping with a grinder, applying copper foil, positioning the pieces, soldering, and finishing. The end result will be a piece from 5”-6” in diameter which will provide a festive accent in any window year-round.
Participants will be able to select pre-cut diamond shapes from a variety of colors and textures of glass, a piece for the center of the snowflake and half-marbles to fit between the points. Persons with prior experience with cutting glass may also cut their own diamond shapes if desired.
Each person should be able to finish 2-3 snowflakes during the workshop. All tools, equipment, and materials included in the workshop fee.
Beginners are welcome and will quickly learn the simple procedures necessary to create a snowflake.
Those with prior experience with stained glass will find that helpful in terms of having a comfort level with the tools, allowing you to complete more pieces . . . . plus you will learn new techniques (e.g., tinning, positioning a free-form object, use of the Morton system for cutting repetitive shapes) and use different materials (e.g., half-marbles) which may provide inspiration for designing your own patterns for stained glass panels.
